Other Soundboard Options
Glass and slate tends to make the call higher in volume, while still retaining true hen sounds.
Glass: Clear single - strength
Slate: Deep mined Pennsylvania slate
Playing Surfaces Available
Plain glass: Clear to medium raspy. Good hen sounds. Higher pitched. Will need reconditioning (sanding with 60-100 grit)
Bead-blasted glass: A bit more raspier than plain glass. Good hen sounds. Medium-high pitch. User friendly, reconditioning not necessarry. Clean with alcohol to remove oil build up from hands.
Plain crystal: Harder than glass. Raspier. Good older hen sounds. Medium-high pitch. Good locator. Will need reconditioning (sanding with 60-100 grit)
Bead blasted crystal: Raspy. Good "ol' boss hen" sound. Medium pitch. Good volume. User friendly- reconditioning not necessary. Clean with alcohol to remove oil build up from hands.
Plain aluminum: Higher pitch, clear tones. Good volume. Will need reconditioning.(sanding with 100-150 grit)
Bead blasted anodized aluminum: This has to be THE best aluminum I have ever used. Able to make all hen sounds. Purrs great, surface is "grippy". Low to high volume. Good striker control. Good close in call AND good locator. User friendly, clean with alcohol to remove oils.
Slate: Most popular of all playing surfaces because of it's "true" hen sounds. Sweet and mellow sounds. Good clear double-note yelps. Soft purrs. Agressive cutts. Good striker control. Makes a good "finisher" |
